Fitness Tips from 5 2014 Miss USA Contestants

Becoming a state representative of the Miss Universe Organization definitely comes with it's perks, but it also requires LOTS of hard work. Maintaining appearances, traveling,  preparation meetings and of course, working out, to name a few.

 In hopes of answering the million dollar question, "How do 'they' maintain a healthy lifestyle and workout, while being so incredibly busy?",  we've asked 5 2014 Miss USA contestants to share their fitness tips and tricks! So, without further adieu, here's a couple of lifestyle and fitness best practices from Miss Maryland, Miss Florida, Miss Georgia, Miss Indiana and Miss Nevada USA 2014.

Miss Maryland USA 2014, Taylor Burton

Uncommon:

Taylor suggests taking your workout outside and doing something that scares you or seems daunting. When your mind is challenged, your body doesn't realize how hard it's working. Furthermore, the sense of accomplishment is that much greater because you "survived." She likes to go on hikes that require her to deal with heights (her biggest fear), or navigate rock scrambles, and she frequently plans her excursions around observing a full moon from a high peak, so that she is forced to trek through the woods at night.

When Traveling:

When Taylor is traveling, her own body weight is her best exercise tool and she sticks to the basics. She does three rounds of a simple circuit that requires strength and increases her heart rate, for example, push-ups, jumping jacks, bicycle sit-ups, and plyometric lunges. These are easy to do in small spaces and can be completed quickly, which makes them great for a busy (or relaxed) travel schedule.

Uncommon:

One workout tip Brittany often shares with her friends is adjusting the seat of her car all the way back. This forces her to sit completely erect and works your abdominal muscles at the same time.

When Traveling:

Brittany has a variety of floor exercises that she performs regularly when traveling. She also owns ankle weights and tries to bring them with her on long trips.

Uncommon:

Tiana suggests searching #workoutchallenge on Instagram. New challenges are posted daily and the workouts are a really fun way to add variety to your routine.

When Traveling:

Tiana loves to jog in the mornings, especially because it's an excellent opportunity for cardio while enjoying the scenery of a new place!

Miss Indiana USA 2014, Mekayla Diehl

Uncommon:

Mekayla avoids the treadmill. She hates running, even outside. To get her cardio sessions in, she likes to do intervals of jumping jacks, jump ropes, jump squats, and line jumps. She says you burn more calories with short amounts of interval training, instead of spending lengthy minutes jogging on a machine.

When Traveling:
Mekayla really likes different workout videos. Most require only body weight and little space, so it's perfect for hotel rooms!

Uncommon:

Nia’s uncommon work out tip is that she can get a workout in just about anywhere. If She is in line at the grocery store, she can do calf raises. When she is brushing her teeth, she can do squats. She doesn't need a gym to get a workout in on a busy day.

When traveling:

Nia’s learned to love running! If you would’ve asked her to go for a run last year, she would have been tired after three minutes. Now a day it is the perfect work out for her, because all she needs are her running shoes, and she can get a great workout in, no matter where she is!
