Beauty, Brains, & Miss America

By Dana Calderon

It is almost time for the most glamorous night on television, the Miss America pageant. The Miss America pageant was founded in September of 1921, the upcoming pageant will mark their 96th year anniversary. Throughout the years, the pageant has evolved greatly but the two things that have remained is the determination and honor of being crowned Miss America.

In order to be the next Miss America, you must be much more than just a pretty face. These fifty-one gorgeous contestants bring a lot more to the table than just their beauty. Each girl excels in a specific area which will be showcased during the talent portion of the competition. Each girl must be able to think quickly on her feet and be up to date on all current events, for the question portion. Lastly, all fifty girls volunteer and team up with a non- profit organization with hopes of bettering the community. They’re rock stars!

Here at Kandice Pelletier we are also gearing up to be a part of the 96th year of fabulousness. This year we had the pleasure of suiting over 60% of the contestants. When it comes to choosing swimwear, we want each girl to feel special and confident. The girls have recently selected their swimwear and we must say, they all look absolutely beautiful and most importantly, confident.

Now that Miss America is right around the corner, the contestants are preparing for their big day. We are so excited to see these gorgeous girls rock their Kandice Pelletier Swimwear on stage.  Tune into Miss America on September 10th.

Best of luck to all fifty-one contestants. You go girls!

5 Summer Beauty Tips

By Dana Calderon

5 Beauty tips that will keep you looking gorgeous all summer long.

1.     Sunscreen is the most important product of the summer. Sunscreen decreases the risks of skin cancer and sun damage. It’s important to keep your skin healthy. Healthy skin is sexy skin.

2.     Use a self-tanner to achieve a fabulous Summer glow. It’s a lot safer than baking under the harsh UV Rays. Be sure to still apply sunscreen daily.

3.     Humidity= Frizzy Hair. Use Bio-silk to protect your hair from the summer heat. Apply a pea size drop of bio-silk before and after blow drying your hair. This is the key for a frizz free summer.

4.     A bright smile is gorgeous all year around. Keep your teeth white by using white strips. Nothing is more beautiful than a pearly white smile.

5.    Drink lots of water. Water benefits your health, body and skin.

We are moving! Kandice Pelletier Swimwear is moving to the Garment District and we couldn’t be more excited! Kandice Pelletier Swimwear is located in NYC, one of the largest fashion capitals of the world. Our new location is located right in the heart of fashion’s history. Factories aligned the streets of Garment District after World War I. The Garment District was chaotic and exciting, from labor workers scurrying through the streets pushing racks of fabulous fashions, to movie stars visiting their favorite factories to check out the latest fashions trends.

Today, the area is no longer populated with factories but many fabric and trimming stores do reside in the area. Some believe the Garment District should be renamed due to lack of “garment” businesses but others disagree believing this area should remain its original historic name.

At Kandice Pelletier Swimwear, we take great pride in being an American made company. All of our suits are made right here in the United States, from our fabrics to factories. We love being an American made company as well as supporting other fellow American businesses. At Kandice Pelletier Swimwear, we have great hope that our business will provide and contribute to creating more jobs and opportunity here in America.

If you are in the neighborhood, come by and visit us at our new location. We look forward to shopping with you soon.

Q & A with Miss Oklahoma

By Dana Calderon

I had the chance to interview the gorgeous Miss Oklahoma, Sarah Klein. Check out what Sarah had to say about beauty, fitness, and why she loves Kandice Pelletier Swimwear.

Q: What beauty product will you not leave home without?

A: I honestly can’t be anywhere without chap stick. I have one in my purse, one in my car, one in my wallet, one in every place I could possibly need it. Nothing is worse for me than my lips feeling dry and having no chap stick!

Q: Your skin is so clear; can you give us a few skin care tips?

A: I have tried a lot of different skin care products throughout the years. What has been consistent with my routine is that I wash my face every single night before bed and apply moisturizer and eye cream. In the mornings I will use astringent to clean off the moisturizer from the night before, then reapply moisturizer with SPF for the day. My current obsession is BeautyCounter products which are chemical free and so good for your skin. I use the cleansers, moisturizers, make-up, scrubs, and oils.

Q: Being Miss Oklahoma I’m sure you’re constantly busy, how do you have time to stay in such great shape?

A: It can definitely be a struggle sometimes but what I am so thankful for is the lifestyle I have been taught by my trainer, Brian Atteberry. Working with him during my years of competing, I learned how important it is to take care of your body and fuel it properly.  I try to pack healthy snacks for long days on the road and make sure I at least get my cardio in every day.

Q: What exercises can you recommend for us to achieve a tight, toned, tummy?

A: I have always focused on having a toned tummy. Every day I try and do some sort of ab workout whether it’s in my bedroom or at the gym – working upper abs, lower abs, and obliques. Exercises I do at the gym are ball crunches, bent knee ups on a bench, rope crunches, and incline twisting sit-ups.

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?

A: I am a big fan of snacks. Rice cakes with natural peanut butter and honey is one of my favorites. I also love almonds, walnuts, apples, bananas, and blueberries.

Q: You wore Kandice Pelletier Swimwear throughout your pageant career, what was your favorite KP Swimsuit?

A: It is so hard to choose!!! My favorite color is blue though, so that was probably my favorite. It had beautiful silver accents on the bottom and top.

Q: What do you love about Kandice Pelletier Swimwear?

A: What makes this swimwear so unique is that is fits exactly where it needs to, hitting the right angles to show off your body best. I love that there are many different styles to fit your body shape with beautiful colors and the perfect fabric for stage. The styles are always fashion-forward and flattering.

Q: Here at KP Swimwear we believe self-confidence is key to a happy, healthy life. Sarah, you always seem so confident, what does confidence mean to you?

A: Confidence to me is knowing who you are and being proud of that. I struggled for the longest time thinking that I wasn’t enough. But the moment I embraced who I am and every part of who I am, I discovered the self-confidence and boldness I needed to carry with me in pageants and in all parts of life.

Q: What was the most rewarding experience you’ve encountered while being Miss Oklahoma?

A: It is so hard to choose the most rewarding part of Miss Oklahoma. School assemblies are the biggest part of my job so every day is rewarding. Aside from the school assemblies though, one of the most memorable experiences was when I went on the Honor Flight with 72 Veterans to Washington D.C. for the day. With my platform being about military support, this experience was so special. We traveled to the memorials of the wars they fought in and they were given the respect and appreciation that they all deserve. I will never forget that day!

Q: What are your plans, after you pass down the Miss Oklahoma Crown?

A: After I pass down the Miss Oklahoma crown, I plan on moving back to Los Angeles to finish cosmetology school using the scholarship money I have received! Once I finish school, I hope to work in California for a few years, learning all I can from the best in the hair industry.

Guest Blog :: Exposing More Than Skin

Only a rare breed of female exists who feels completely at ease wearing a bikini…in heels…onstage…being judged. Actively judged. None of this “You’re your own biggest critic” mumbo-jumbo. We’re talking about baring 90% of one’s body under glaringly bright stage lights while a panel of judges openly assesses any “weaknesses.” Truthfully, a pageant’s swimsuit competition is a greater evaluation of psychological strength than of muscular strength...
